Khi phát /s/, đầu lưỡi tiến gần lợi trên nhưng không chạm, môi hơi kéo ngang, luồng hơi thoát ra liên tục, không rung dây thanh.
Phân tích từ ví dụ
- accelerate: c đầu đọc /k/, c thứ hai trước e chuyển sang /s/.
- acceleration: âm tiết -cel- thể hiện soft c.
- accent: c + e luôn cho âm /s/.
Tránh nhầm lẫn
Đừng nhầm soft c với chữ s trong chính tả; quy tắc phát âm không làm thay đổi chữ cái.
