短元音（Short Vowels） 指英文字母 a, e, i, o, u 在闭音节或弱读位置中发出的简短、集中的元音音值。其发音不延长、不滑动，是自然拼读的基础。短元音通常出现在 CVC 结构（辅音-元音-辅音）中，如 cat, bed。
发音指南
短元音发音时舌位居中或略低，口型自然放松，气流短促直接。a /æ/ 张口较大；e /e/ 口型半开；i /ɪ/ 舌尖微抬；o /ɒ/ 或 /ɑ/ 圆唇轻；u /ʌ/ 口型中性。
